V (VALUABLE) (Enhance strengths and reduce weaknesses)
R (RARE) (Controlled by one firm or very few firms)
I (INIMITABLE) (Difficult to imitate)
N (NON-SUBSTITUTABLE) (Are there readily available equivalents?)
